Recent Acquisitions (Friday 22nd December 2023)
I haven't checked this but I suspect that I have bought more CD copies of this album than any other. I'm not even taking into account earlier vinyl or tape copies. Apart from the original CD release I bought a Deluxe edition because it had the original Jamaican version (before guitars and organ fills had been added as sweeteners in London for ears unfamiliar with the sound system preferences of their home audience) and it came up again in a box set I bought that included all 11 of their Island/Tuff Gong albums.
This new version has two extra discs, one containing the concert they played for Radio One in 1973 and the other with alternative and extended versions of the Jamaican mixes, plus three 'famous' live recordings from Edmonton, North London, in 1973.
Catch A Fire was the first album they recorded for Island, made in three studios in Jamaica in 1972 and released in 1973 as they took the world by storm.
I saw them live just once, on 17 June 1976 with the Spotlight Kid at Hammersmith Odeon - one of those concerts that stays in the memory forever after.
I've had this on pre-order for a long while. It's release seems to have been delayed but it finally arrived on this day, in time for C*****mas.
