KX100 (not a little Kawasaki)

After taking a pic of a Postbox that I'd hoped was from Lion Foundry, and discovering in was instead made by Carron Company, your Gal fell down an internet rabbit hole that diversified into Telephone Boxes., namely the iconic K6 model.

We had quite a lot scattered around our local area up until the early '90s during a program of replacement by British Telecom. The new model - KX100 - was manufactured by GKN and whilst having improved ergonomics (and potential for selling advertising space ;-D ) they were not popular due to no longer having that iconic look known the world over.

The KX100s were soon superceded by another model, the KX+,with a red domed glass fibre roof to resemble the shape of the K6, and as such the KX100s are becoming rare in their own right but are not yet old enough to be considered of historical significance.

A shame really as a Public Phonebox is itself a rare sight, gradually being decommissioned unless shown to be used as mobile phones have become the norm.

I know they can hardly be called beautiful but I admire their sharp move away from the traditional look - the newer still ones less so with their glass fibre roof being a very poor nod to the past.

P.S: the blur in the background is a 346 bus :-)
