Long Legs, Tiny Head
Our gathering last night was pleasant and relaxed. We kept it simple; Janet brought an appetizer platter and I made bay shrimp marinated in lime juice and cilantro with endive leaves for dipping as Janet said they weren't eating carbs. we all sat together in the living room for awhile but soon, as inevitably happens, we split into a man group and a woman group. Just as well as I was tired of talking about heat pumps and rats!
After a slow start with the newspaper and coffee we got ourselves together and took Spike up the hill to his sunny meadow. He met a very handsome dog up there who really tried to get Spike to play but gave up after a nice tail wagging greeting and no sign from Spike that he wanted to play chase.
I made it around the hilly circuit with just a few twinges on the steeper downhill bits at the end, casting a very long shadow with the sun behind me. Strengthening the vastus medialis by riding the bike seems to have helped although some days are definitely better than others. Now I have to concentrate on how to get the remnants of the wound on my leg, made back in October to remove a skin cancer, to heal. The pleasant, somewhat unhelpful physician's assistant at the orthopedic surgeon's office said if it wasn't 100% healed by the time of the surgery it would have to be postponed. I don't think it's infected, but I'll probably have to add a call to the dermatologist to my list of chores for next week.
After our walk to Spike's Meadow, we went to Sarmentine Bakery for a coffee and a sandwich. It was charmingly decorated with strings of lights hanging from the ceiling like icicles, but they were out of just about everything. They did make us two croque monsieur sandwiches...a French version of very rich grilled ham and cheese. Delicious.
We popped over to Safari West for a gift certificate for Lindsay and Adisa. Grace will love the jeep safari ride through the zebras and giraffes and there is a restaurant and aviary for Sage and whoever is minding her as she is too little for the jeep ride.
A quick ride on the not-a Peloton bike rounded out the day.
