Christmas Eve
I baked a cake, then we had the traditional Christmas Eve morning's rice porridge breakfast. Then we watched the declaration of Christmas Peace.
Christmas Peace is a traditional Finnish event whereby the Christmas season is formally announced. This practice has its roots in old Swedish legislation and was established by Birger Jarl in the 13th century, building upon the Truce of God tradition. Offenders who committed crimes during the Christmas season were subjected to harsher punishments. The declaration of Christmas Peace is a symbolic and integral part of the Christmas tradition. Tradition encourages people to be respectful and peaceful at Christmas.
I baked Archipelago bread and then joined the Christmas tree decoration team.
In the afternoon we drove to my sister's, where we had a dinner, and my parents were there too.
In the evening at home we spent lovely evening; opened gifts, had snack and wathced a movie called Peruna. In the picture L & E are solving the traditional picture riddle of Hannu Mänttäri in the Aamulehti newspaper.
