Over the Horizon

Torn apart

Torn apart at the airport. Three miserable days of plains, trains and automobiles later I am thousands of miles away. I've crossed the vastness of the Pacific and enormous landmass of North America to arrive here: Douglas Lake, Northern Michigan. Home of the University of Michigan Biological Station.

This place and the community of people who come here every season are a second home to me. Arriving here softens the journey back to America. Still, I'm exhausted, bewildered, and utterly jolted from one hemisphere, one season to another.

Early spring in the Great Lakes. Where am I?
