Traditionally we have a picnic after the church service on Christmas Day but yesterday we abandoned it for only the second time in 15 years, as it started to rain very heavily with nowhere to shelter. This morning the sky was clear and bright so we walked along the beach at Yellowcraigs where there were dozens of people and dogs of all sorts and sizes having great fun playing or chasing balls and retrieving sticks. The recent storms had taken their toll on the sand dunes and we then warmed up with our flask of soup while overlooking the blue sea.
On the way back there were some very rare wavy Kelvin Helmholtz clouds which foretell turbulent weather but my photos were poor. By the time we arrived home it was cloudy so we had been fortunate especially as the forecast is poor with Storm Gerrit approaching.
