Lime Kiln

Industrial monument lime kiln Daelsweg.
In continuous lime fires, the lime kiln is alternately filled with hard chunks of limestone, sorted by size, and a layer of coal (fuel).
In the oven, limestone (CaCO3) is converted into burnt lime (Ca0) and the escaping carbon dioxide (CO2) at a temperature of 800-1000 C. After quenching with water, the Ca0 is used as agricultural lime, plaster, air mortar and in the extraction of sugar from sugar beets and the manufacture of glass.
