Nesting Macaw
Still catching up. At least the WiFi in our bedroom seems strong and stable
Boxing day. And another moving on day. And a long bus journey.
We left our lovely hotel in Monteverde at about 9am. Whilst waiting for our bus to arrive we watched another, larger, tour group loading suitcases onto the roof of their bus (1st extra), and were glad that our group is small enough that we can pile all our suitcases up on the back seat.
It was a long, winding drive out of the mountains to the Pan American “highway”. Followed by a slow drive along there. After turning off the highway towards our destination of Manuel Antonio, we had a brief stop at an enormous souvenir shop – E advised us not to buy anything today, as we will pass it again on the way back to San Jose, but when I asked about the provenance of the goods, he said he believed that most, if not all, are locally sourced, rather than made in China. So we will have a good browse in a couple of days time.
We stopped at the side of the road a little while later and E showed us a tree with a Scarlet Macaw nest. Mum/dad was poking her head out to look around when we first arrived. And there were several more hopping around in the branches – see extras.
On arrival at our hotel in Manuel Antonio, we were all quite disappointed – it’s run down and unimpressive. Oh well, we’ll cope for a few days, but the company running the tour will be getting some stinging feedback, I suspect. At least the air conditioning works, but its location right over the bed means it is too draughty to run it when we are trying to sleep.
E found us another lovely restaurant nearby for our evening meal.
