A Day In The Life

10 Days Later

It’s been ten days since the Kennebec River and Cobbosseecontee Stream flooded our little city. We were finally allowed to enter the boat landing today. It’s hard to imagine now it was under twelve or more feet of water. The pavement and sidewalks were scraped clean but the grassy areas are covered in mud, one berry tree tipped over roots and all, and other trees had debris hanging from their branches like tinsel • The local grocery store is still closed. I read today they had water as high as the rafters, and still assessing storm damage. They do expect to reopen in the future. Thankfully we have three other stores within a short driving distance • Many other businesses (restaurants, pubs, antiques and gifts) located along the river are still cleaning up. Apparently flood insurance doesn’t cover contents and the replacement cost of equipment (freezers, ovens, coolers) located in their cellars may force many out of business • The river is within her banks but running high, still.
