I went up to town on what turned out to be a fruitless task - only looking for a replacement gauze for the cafetiere, but John Lewis don't do them any more (they still sell cafetieres, but presumably you're supposed to buy a new one every time the gauze gets a bit frayed) and Lakeland don't seem to do them at all.

I was disgusted - my only enjoyment consisted of refreshing my memory of Maxwell's equations in their beautifully concise vector form.

In the evening we went to the Vaults for a meal/dram with Mel and the visiting Cron. Food and drams excellent as ever, but the insistence on trying to do table service is tiresome.
