Cassie
We were all up bright and early this morning. It was raining. We had to finish packing and tidying up the cottage. We were out by 10am. We arrived in the rain and we left in the rain. Our destination was Oxford to visit friends. We made reasonable, but slow, progress on the M5, but once on the M4, the weather took a definite turn for the worse due to Storm Anthoni, which really slowed us down. As we got nearer to oxford the rain had eased and there was a glimpse of blue sky, and then there was more blue sky. It had stopped raining by the time we arrived at our friends – an hour later than we had predicted.
It’s four years since we last visited them. Unfortunately B and E were away at a family event, so only DB and D were at home this weekend. I was definitely outnumbered – far too much boy chat! It was lovely to catch up. DB fed us, which was great. As we hadn’t stopped for lunch. Then there was rugby to be watched. We were all relieved that Scotland won in the end, but it was tense. We had planned to go out for a walk after the rugby, but the rain came on, and it was very heavy. It did eventually go off, and we risked a walk – though didn’t go very far. It was grey and cold. BB and D had a kick about in the park. DB bumped into a couple of friends and I was contrasting their attire – in that they were dressed for winter, while BB and I were still very much dressed for summer. Once they were done kicking a ball, we headed back home to warm up. BB and I took a slight detour to visit Tolkien’s grave which was nearby. BB had just finished reading one of his books. He expected something grand, when in fact it is very modest.
Later we ordered a takeaway curry. It was very nice, but we all commented on the small portion sizes, which we put down to increased costs. There was much chat and a bottle of port was opened. We were very sensible though, and savoured it.
