Red Hemp-nettle
Thanks to the Wildflower Hour 'By the Sea' challenge, Pete and I headed off to visit The Wash today. Wild winds, vast views, a sense of wilderness hard to find in SE England - and the plants were pretty good too.
Lots of attractive coastal species on the sea wall and shingle at Snettisham - Yellow Horned-poppy, Sea Mayweed, Sea Campion, Viper's-bugloss and Sea Spurge. But the highlight of my visit was finding Red Hemp-nettle, now Critically Endangered in GB. I'd forgotten quite how tiny it can be - there were a reasonable number on the open shingle bank once I'd got my eye in!
