Substitute

In my quest for another sighting of Waxwings, I popped up to Saughall Massie early this morning. Well, not early enough. They were there at 8-30 but a Sparrow Hawk spooked them and I waited in vain for them to return. The best I got was a couple of thrushes. In previous times, I would have been delighted with this. The light was awful and the best spot, behind a lamppost, was already taken, so I could only get the roof of a local shop as a backdrop.
