Katydid shell

When I was in the garden today looking for a tiny thing for Tuesday I was really thrilled to come across this shell. I touched it. There are two versions of what happened next.

1 A katydid jumped out from the shell. . 

2 A katydid had recently emerged from the shell and when I touched it the katydid, which was close by, got a fright and jumped into view.

I don't know which is true but I like the first one better. Either way there is no doubt in my mind that the katydid and the shell had been one a short time previously. 

There's a bit of blue in the background.
