Danish connections
Today’s blip links in with Queen Margrethe II of Denmark’s recent announcement that she is abdicating, which will allow Crown Prince Frederik and his wife, Princess Mary, to accede to the Danish throne. The link here is that Mary’s (who was Australian) parents came from Port Seton, a few miles down the road from us.
Mary’s dad, John Dalgleish Donaldson married Henrietta Clark Home in Mary 1963 at Port Seton church, before emigrating to Australia in November of the same year. The rest they say is history.
Before marrying the Crown Prince, one of Mary’s job was for publishers, Rapp Collins, which involved her spending three months in Edinburgh, and I am pretty sure, she would have popped down the coast to see her ancestral home, especially, since her mother had just recently died (1998).
Anyway, expect a Danish flag to appear on my blip on 14th of this month when the Crown Prince accedes.
Can I also point out that I have some Danish ancestry, and that I have always loved Lurpak butter.
Have a good day all.
