Dank, Dreich and Dismal…….
Dank or dreich or both describes today in Edinburgh and so what did the two daughters and I do? We drove out of the city through the rolling hills of Midlothian to Peebles and then on to Stobo Castle for a coffee and a chance to sip it in the atrium and absorb the atmosphere which reminds us of our sisternood get togethers each October.
There were wisps of cloud trailing low on the hills and the roads were awash in places after a night of rain, but inside the castle it was warm and peaceful and full of the scent of aromatic fragrances, all good at blocking out the weather.
We sat for a considerable length of time before the daughters decided there were things they had to do back home.
It was still dank and dreich in Edinburgh but with the extra dimension of rain. The heating is on in the Dower House and I’m going nowhere.
It’s the start of the family birthday season today with greetings winging their way to Rosie in Yorkshire and Luca in Edinburgh.
