Life is a Challenge!

IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN!

I think, in view of the torrential rain we have had recently, that Mr. HCB should be thinking about building an ark rather than worrying about what seeds to buy for the coming year - he just needs to source the wood!

We were intending to go out yesterday afternoon, but the rain didn't stop, so we stayed indoors all day.  It was interesting this morning to get a Whatsapp message from Lynn, our lovely next door neighbour to say that she had found the papers from Sunday still under our doormat when she came to put Monday's and yesterday's there this morning and despite ringing our bell, could get no response, so she wondered if we were all right.  They very kindly give us their newspapers each day so it was really kind of her to be concerned about us.  Mr. HCB went out to pick them up and we both let her know that we were still alive!  She said she had been about to open the door and shout to us - as she has a key - there was no need to do that - but comforting to know that someone is watching out for us.

Anyway, back to the seeds - Mr. HCB sent for several seed catalogues, as he always does, and the one he seems very keen on is from D.T. Brown Seed Merchants Est. 1908.  Not only do they sell premium seeds, but also vegetables and plants and as an added bonus, there is £10 off when you spend over £60, which won't be that difficult, a free pack of seed with every order and a free 16 page growing record in the middle of the catalogue. As most gardeners do at this time of year, he has been comparing prices and delivery charges etc and feels that this company looks the best, so he is getting very excited and I think this company has the edge so far;  I have even enjoyed looking through the catalogue.

We thought we might go out this morning, but once again, the rain was coming down in Biblical proportions, so it was another morning indoors.  I finished yet another pair of fingerless gloves and we also watched a programme on Netflix entitled "You Are What You Eat" recommended by our son in Vietnam - we watched two episodes and it is very interesting - it's an experiment using identical twins and it could even encourage us to change our eating habits although Mr.  HCB is adamant he will never become a vegetarian or vegan.

On going out into the conservatory to find a crochet hook, I saw all the seed packets on the table, not only ones Mr. HCB had bought last year, but also lots of saved seeds from our own garden, together with the lovely little cutting vase stand that our friend, Amanda, gave to Mr.  HCB for Christmas, and decided that it would make a good Blip for today.  You all know how keen Mr. HCB is on his garden and I'm pleased he is still able to do all he does out there - long may it continue.

Take care and stay safe, dry and warm - but remember SPRING is coming!
