Floodplains

A day of variable weather.  It was lovely to see a little sun in the morning after the rain and wind from storm Henk yesterday.  I went for a walk with my husband after breakfast and the sun was out as we set off.  By the time we reached the beach it was raining but as it wasn't too heavy we continued towels to the river estuary.  The tide was in and the newly created flood plains very full.  Before the Lower Otter Restoration Project this area would possibly have been flooded along with the cricket club which has now been relocated.

After lunch I went to the geology group meeting as I was interested in the topic being presented ie the Hallsands disaster.  It was a fishing village on the South Devon coast that became famous as a coastal erosion site when the effect of coastal dredging processes were not fully understood.   The houses were destroyed by the weathering effects of storms and the sea exacerbated by the dredging of shingle from here and Beesands for the expansion of Plymouth dockyard in the early 1900's.  Only a few ruins remain today.

Thank you for your concern over my husband's health.  He is much better today having increased his water and salt intake.
