The pain barrier
I am seriously unfit; I can't run a bath or catch a cold without getting out of breath. I was quite ill a few years back, and fell even more out of shape as a result, and have been reluctant to get anything started up since in fear of a relapse. However, the time has come. I need to lose weight and improve my cardiovascular system in order to enjoy more time on this planet with my lovely Lady Hollows and to look as trim and buff as I once did before I discovered alcohol and music in 1990 ;)
Nothing like an impossible challenge eh?
So this evening I took sort-of ownership (one of those cycle scheme things) of a brand new road bike with the aim to get in shape enough to ride to work a couple of times a week. Not sure how we'll get the girls there, but I reckon it's workable with a rigid routine on my part. I got some fetching lycra shorts too (my colleagues will be so professional about this aspect and in no way take the piss) and a bright yellow jersey to fool the innocent into thinking I am a champion. I did a short 25 min stint this evening to see what it was like and nearly died of heart failure on a lovely lane overlooking Ashford in the Water. Stunning view - well worth the near-death experience.
I am going to slowly build up to this sensibly. Day 1 completed.
I also had a blog post published on the website of a podcast I listen to. I am extremely chuffed about this as I always struggled with writing growing up, and this is the closest I'll ever get to writing somefink proper like. That's made my week that has.
Jnr Jnr fell off her scooter whilst I was out riding - 'tis a mere flesh wound though. You'd have thought she'd have lost a limb by the way she went on when I sprayed some antiseptic on it. She looked so forlorn, so I shot her rather than my new wheels.
PS: I will explain yesterday's cryptic blip next week :)
