Calendar2024
The doldrums days between Christmas and New Year seem to have expanded this year in Edinburgh to include the first week in January. Most of the shops are open , though not all and it seems the schools don’t return until next week. Perhaps that explains why there are still throngs of people treading the light fantastic through the streets in the centre of the city. Not only are there trains of people on guided tours but I actually passed a queue of people snaking out onto the street waiting to buy ice creams at the shop I have mentioned before beside Greyfriars’ Kirkyard.
The Doldrum days give me time to close my 2023 diary and start transferring information and appointments to my new 2024 diary. It also gives me time to pin a new calendar to the wall and this is it, open at January. It was given to me by the Stromness Selkies and every month there is a different scene taken at the slip they swim from. I treasure it as it transports me from the busyness of life in the centre of a city to the gentler life I look forward to being part of again this year.
There is another family birthday today -the 4th since New Year’s Day. My oldest granddaughter who lives in Sharjah is now of an age that requires the decorum of not being mentioned.
Happy Birthday Robynn!
