Gray Wolves of Yellowstone
The Gray Wolf once roamed from the Arctic tundra to Mexico but
by 1926 most of the wolves in the U.S. and all of the members of the last wolf pack in Yellowstone had been killed. From 1995-'97 the Gray Wolf was reintroduced back into Yellowstone National Park. Info on the reintroduction of the Gray Wolf into Yellowstone National Park
The main reason for our trip to Yellowstone was to see and photograph some of the descendants of these wolves. The Park Service has very strict rules concerning these activities. Park visitors must not get any closer than 100 yards to the wolves. We were probably at least 200 yds. form the wolves we saw today. We spotted a pack of 4-6 wolves (*extras) and were able to hear the howling of many more. Very exciting! Tomorrow we hope to see more wolves as we return to the Lamar Valley.
