Fire

My photo today shows the scene from Altea beach at about 8.30a.m.

Smoke and Flames were clearly visible on the hillside of Sierra Altea.

The wooded hillside was well alight, we had had strong winds during the night and we’ve had no rain for weeks! A perfect scenario for a Forest Fire.

It wasn’t long before we heard and saw overhead, the bright yellow fire fighting planes and bright yellow helicopters with their red water buckets.
The planes made many passes over the sea, picking up water, and dropping it on the flames.

The nearby AP7 motorway was closed, the N332 was closed and traffic was diverted. The narrow gauge railway was also closed.
Families were evacuated from their homes.

Dramatic video footage has appeared on social media.

As far as I know, there have been no casualties and no properties have been destroyed….although there will have several large areas of forest destroyed by the flames.
