FOUR YEARS

Four years to the day you went away
Never to be seen again
At least you’re now free of MND
And no longer suffer in pain

We now have grandchildren you have never seen
And that seems to me to be very mean
You loved our grandchildren so very much
You would have loved to hold them
And just to touch

I visit your grave when I get the chance
I know from your poems
That was your wish 
So I bring you flowers and a tender kiss 

You left a great hole here in my heart 
I wish we never had to part
I’ll carry this emptiness way deep inside
Until it’s my time to lie by your side
