But look closely, the three dark blobs are full of black Lettuce seeds. I allow a few lettuce plants on the allotment to flower. The small yellow flowers are quickly followed by white tufted capsules. I collect these and pull off the hairy tufts (Pappus I think) which assist in wind distribution, like Dandelions.
