Sedge Warbler
Amwell 18:20
Went down to Amwell today to try and get a few more warblers on my year list - at present there's only six - Reed, Willow, Chiffchaff, Cetti's, Whitethroat & Garden. Considering I was chatting to someone there the other day and he reckoned there were 11 species of warbler one day a few weeks ago, (Grasshopper, Sedge, Reed, Willow, Chiffchaff, Wood, Cetti's, Whitethroat, Lesser Whitethroat, Garden & Blackcap) surely some have hung around and not just passed through.
Certainly had a good day, but not much luck on the warbler front. It definitely helps if you can identify their songs, stops you wasting time looking for that Robin, Wren or Blackbird, but I struggle with that, in fact I even struggle hearing anything at times, but as I said a good day nonetheless. A wander round the Dragonfly walk produced a few damselflies but no dragonflies, it wasn't really dragonfly weather. Took some photos of the wild orchids and then ended up in the White hide where I spied a pair of Reed Warblers chasing each other around the Reeds. Got the camera set up on the tripod and took some really excellent shots, quite possibly my best ever Reed Warblers photos. Got them home and loaded them onto the computer, yup excellent, but in the middle there were a dozen shots of a bird on the reed mace. That's no Reed Warbler, that's a Sedge Warbler - that'll be seven on the warbler year list now then!
