Leith lamppost

A discussion in a Facebook group promoted today's picture.

There are a handful of these old, ornate lampposts in Leith - most of them pretty close to my flat.

Opinion seems to be divided as to whether they were the first electric street lights or there’s another reason they’re so fancy. Whatever their history they’re much more interesting than their modern counterparts.
