Dry - Dock.
We made the most of the blue skies and sunshine, with a good long morning walk.
Slightly to the right, and around the middle of the picture, are the remnants of a dry dock built in the early 1850's. The first ship, weighing 1200 tons, arrived from Canada into the dock in 1856. The local paper reported "Flags were waving in all directions, guns firing and crowds of people arriving for advantageous positions from which to behold the entrance of this splendid vessel, which was safely brought into the dock and secured amidst the hurrah of the assembled multitudes."
Sadly, various economic downturns and worldwide competition, have put paid to it as a going concern.
Many thanks to BobsBlips for hosting the old themed WideWednesday.
