New Growth

Today
The sun is shining
The sky is clear and blue
The storms of yesterday have passed

Today
I read in bed until "too late"
I soak in a tub of warm water and wash my overly long and graying hair
I put on the black kettle for tea

Today
There are patterns of shadow and light on the live oak trees by the pond
The breeze makes the water dance in ripples

The cherry tree has lost last season's fruit
But new growth buds along its branches

In the midst of winter
