Birds of Madeira
Today we joined an organised birdwatching trip which we had both been looking forward to. The guide knew exactly where to take us to see the birds of Madeira. My absolute favourite has to be the Firecrest (main photo). I had never seen one before. We were lucky to see quite a few but the light was poor and they were in amongst trees and bushes and did not stop for long. I didn’t think I was going to get a usable photograph, but at the last minute one obliged! The Atlantic Canary in the extra was a much easier subject sitting on top of the branch in full view!
For my own records we also saw:
Sparrowhawk, Trocaz Pigeon, Kestrel, Blackcap, Berthelot’s Pipit and Spectacled Warbler.
