End of an era
This kiddies playhouse was given to us by our neighbours as their children had outgrown it. Their oldest is now well into his twenties and we have had it for about ten years so this playhouse has seen a lot of service. Our grandchildren used to make a beeline to it immediately they arrived, all the problems of being shut up in a crowded car for hours instantly forgotten.
This week I saw the felt on the roof had ripped and so made plans to replace it. Sue questioned if it was worth it as she felt it was becoming dangerous. Sure enough when I investigated I found the steps were rotten and the floor in places was very bouncy, not a good sign (unless it was a trampoline). Also it was in need of a good coat of paint or three, looking very shabby.
We don't get a many visits from grandchildren now and they are also growing up and probably growing out of playhouses. So decision made, lets get rid of it. That is when I found that, although some parts were rotten, the majority of it was solid, held together with long machine driven screws and very resistant to my idea of demolishing it.
Although I used screwdrivers the main implement was a heavy hammer, swung with increasing venom as the sides refused to move. After some more hours effort the sides joined the roof on the floor. The play house got its final retaliation on me when I had to move the panels. Heavy and cumbersome and now standing in the bit of the hidden garden that I spent days tiding up. It is now a mess again. And I still have the base and its legs to move.
To change a well known phrase " decide to do something in haste repent at leisure" ; also nurse your aches and pains for some time
