Up on the roof.
This is the view from our loft bedroom looking over the rooftops to Llanishen reservoir. The Victorian reservoir has and interesting recent history. When we first moved here almost 30 years ago, the disused reservoir was great place for leisure: walking, wildlife, sailing etc. Like many things it was sold by Welsh Water (or whatever it was called then) to a developer who wished to drain it and build on the site. There then followed a campaign to save the reservoir which was eventually successful on the grounds of the rare flora and fauna found there. The frustrated developer sold it back to Welsh Water who obtained a grant to re develop it for leisure purposes with a dedicated cafe and visitor centre. It re-opened last year and is a great place to visit for nature walks, bird watching and various water sports, including a “wild water” swimming area.
The title is also a song written by the wonderful Carole King in the 60s and recorded by many artists including the drifters and James Taylor.
