311 seventeenth century steps

... and a lovely view from the windy top of London landmarks including the Thames. The steps spiral up The Monument, designed by Sir Christopher Wren and Dr Robert Hooke, and built between 1671 and 1677 to commemorate the Great Fire of London (1666) and the rebuilding of London. Originally it towered above all the nearby buildings, but now it's dwarfed and crowded by several modern buildings, though you can spot its gilded pinnacle if you know where to look.

Had a lovely lunch - at the amazing Oxo Tower restaurant - with the family and a lot better weather than forecast. Also visited the National Portrait Gallery and enjoyed viewing the annual BP Awards exhibition.

Wish I could have shared more pics with you but this view of the spiral staircase is a pleasing one, I think.
