Ramblings from Zambia....

Rain and mushrooms....

Its been a wet few days with a promise of more rain for the next week!  So...mushrooms are flourishing all over the place!  However, the rain has caused a lot of cholera in Lusaka with around 20 people dying every day for the last few weeks.  Lusaka has no proper drainage (it lies on top of a massive rock), and so compounds become flooded as any drainage there is tends to be clogged up with rubbish.  In the compounds there are pit latrines and also boreholes and so with the flooding they get mixed up and people become sick from the dirty water!  Its really serious at the minute and with heavy rains predicted over the next few weeks it could even get worse.
