Sedbergh WI Bookclub

Today’s book for discussion was Silence of th Girls by Pat Barker. I found it hard going. It seemed to be the film Troy, with lots of women’s voices added. Well women didn’t feature much back then. The male characters were all the well known characters. Helen did appear intermittently but the women’s lot was mostly appalling. I think these are mostly made up, but Barker is probably right about most of the women being constantly abused.
Having said that, we had a good meeting. A few of the members enjoyed it and it’s always better when views differ.
