Battle for Dominance

Just outside of the West entrance of Yellowstone National Park we visited the Grizzly&Wolf Discovery Center, an AZA Accredited, Not-for-Profit Wildlife Park and Educational Facility. The animals living there aren't able to be released into the wild for various reasons. We spent two hours and I wish it had been an entire day! I'm highlighting the wolves here and will share photos of some of the other animals in their care with you tomorrow. 
The lighter color wolf is the dominate male in this enclosure. The darker male, his brother, was being reintroduced and naturally there was a question of 'who's the Boss'. I watched the entire encounter and though there was a lot of noise and vicious-looking/sounding interaction, there was no blood shed. Their caretaker kept assuring us that if the 'fight' was serious, one of them would probably be dead. The light colored wolf 'won' and that's him howling to tell all of the other wolves that he was the victor. Pretty exciting stuff, I've got to say!
