Little Jewels
Flowering as they do down here in the lowlands, in the darkest months, when caught in the sunlight the crocus flowers are winter jewels. Another rarity, this is Crocus cyprius which I have raised from seed a few times over the years, including from my own home produced seed. I have never had more than a few flowering sized corms, the only way to increase them is by seed. It doesn't set much seed in cultivation so I'm happy to have managed to keep it going.
A day of admin and chores mostly. Got laundry almost dry outside in the cold wind and took Bella and Meg on the circuit from Rhydyronen via Cynfal. Over tea time Jamie and I were distracted by a saga playing out in Birmingham. Ruth had a friend round with their bouncy Labrador but Timmy cat, while in Ruth's arms, took flight, scratching Ruth's face badly. She sent the GP a picture - great practice that responds quickly to electronic enquiries - they asked to see her in person and decided it needed stitching at A & E. Fortunately Ruth's support worker could stay on but on arriving at the train station a notice flashed up that all further trains were suspended due to a points failure. A sense of deja-vu for Ruth after our adventures before Christmas! They eventually made it to the hospital in a taxi and she was sorted and home four hours later. Phew!
