Folkestone Harbour
P had an afternoon appointment in Folkestone, so J and I went along for a walk by the sea. It was a beautifully bright day - it felt astonishing this morning to come downstairs into the stripes of sunshine slanting into the room - but it was very cold. We were as well wrapped as we could be, and the late afternoon light on the sea was beautiful, with a very clear sky dotted with a few little spots of cloud, prettily tinted by the low sun. The tide was high, so Folkestone's small fleet of fishing boats bobbed gently, lined up with their dinghies in the outer harbour. We walked along the Stade, then to the far end of Coronation Parade, the smooth, wide promenade below the cliffs which follows the curve of Sunny Sands, and watched the waves on the rocks. It was too cold to stay for long, but lovely to be beside the sea again.
The afternoon ended less well: the car would not start. We were fortunate that one of J's PAs lives not far away, and kindly drove down to the car park to enable P to deploy his jump leads. Otherwise, we would have risked a very long, chilly wait for the AA. We abandoned the errands planned for the route home, and returned without stopping. Now, we will need to have the battery tested to find out if it's failing or just too cold and used too infrequently.
Yesterday's photos are not yet sorted out - I took a surprising number on a gloomy half hour walk up the hill. My resolution to post daily was always going to be challenging, but I hoped it would last a little longer.
