I just spent twenty minutes writing a long blip to go with this photo and when I published, there was some glitch or other and Blifoto lost everything. EVERYTHING!
The Lost Blip concerned what an odd Saturday I had, where although nothing went seriously wrong, little things went wrong all day, to the point where I was actually relieved to get into bed on Saturday evening, fearing the day was building up to a proper calamity.
One one of the things that went wrong - detailed at some length in The Marvellous Lost Blip - was that I missed my station on my way back home from London. However, in a neat twist that demonstrates just how unfair it is that I've never been given a slot on the Today programme's Thought For The Day, I ended up seeing a real life, proper steam train thunder through Oxenholme station, which is an experience I would have otherwise missed.
Anyway.
I was reminded of all that - the Saturday thing, so lovingly recounted in splendid, humorous detail only to be lost FOREVER - because today I took this photo from a bridge over the line between Lancaster and Leeds. The building was once Arkholme station and is now a private house. It was owned for a while by Jim Bowen (the comedian) and I was always rather envious. Mind you, maybe I'm getting old but these days if I was to live in a converted station, I'd want it to be on a disused line.
