Love Padlocks on the Ha'penny Bridge

Supposedly tokens of love over the Liffey and I do get the sentiment but it doesn't seem an appropriate token of love to me somehow, more one of possession. I have always thought of love as something one gives unconditionally, freely and not under lock and key.
