H.S.E. Scarecrow

The Health and Safety Executive have apparently realised the danger issues raised to both wild life and the scarecrow by this form of work.
The R.S.P.B. have pointed out that the long accepted practise of using scarecrows may have to stop, as they also frighten and cause trauma to other birds, some of which may be rare or in fact endangered species.
The reflective jacket must be bright enough to stop birds from inadvertantly flying into it,but not so bright that it causes discomfort to their eyes or creates an experience of fright outwith the accepted comfort zone.
In the picture a seagull is shown inspecting the "scarecrow," on behalf of branch members.
Henceforth it is to be known as a Crop Eating Discourager, iaw an EEC Directive. It is hoped therefore that this will alleviate any pressure on any one single group."i.e crows"
All "Crop Eating Discourager" will have to be clearly signposted in English and local dialect,as well as checked annually for conformity, safety and design .
Colours will be subdued in conservation areas.
All tongues to be firmly in cheek.
