Scape

I trimmed the garlic crop today, and I learned a little something. These little curly heads that I've always thought looked like graceful little swans, are actually known as "scapes." Left on, these will turn into puffy little garlic flowers, but cut off, the plant's energy goes into the bulb, the whole purpose of growing garlic. So, it's off with their heads... before they 'scape!
