A view from Jeanneb

Treacherous.

Foolishly decided to get out in the winter sun this morning. Foolish because paths, roads and pavements were all slick with black ice.
I could see from upstairs that our drive was black ice and our close gets virtually no sun in winter when the sun is low so we should really have given up then. I wrongly thought that once onto the fields and paths it would be just crisp rather than slippy but not so.  I suppose it has been so wet that even the  well used grass paths were icy. Here, (not a good shot of Chris )
you can see the low path through the woods of St Ives shot with ice. There were a few spots where there was no ice but not many.
The bonus was lovely views over the frosted fields of Low Park and lots of bird song and activity. At one point we could see at least half a dozen Tree Creepers, lots of twittering Blue Tits, Blackbirds, Robins and a Jay.

We struggled to get off the path onto the road so decided to give Betty’s Wood a miss and headed straight for The Ivy Kitchen for a coffee. The debate then was which route to use home, all downhill!

Getting onto the usual paths, quite a drop, put us off so we headed for the road. Luckily most of the pavement was ok as it is a very fast road into the village and I wouldn’t have wanted to walk in it. Huge expanse of ice around the war memorial corner and even the middle of the road down into our estate was very tricky. Back on our road, which was still as bad a when we set off, I finally landed on my bottom!
Chris put some salt on our drive but with such low temperatures I don’t think they’ll be much improvement elsewhere today.
Giving the walk to the pub a miss tonight, nit going to push my luck,  had enough dicing life and limb on dodgy paths for one day, maybe tomorrow morning!
