Curlew

In the distance a large drab brown bird with a long decurved beak being its sole feature. However if you get a decent look, one can appreciate the beauty of the plumage. A species doing badly at present.
Indeed two of the curlew family are thought to have probably become extinct in the last fifty years, one in America and one in Europe. The American species numbered in the millons in the 19th century and was one of the commonest shorebird in America.
A warning if nothing else of the damage we can cause as a species ourselves.
