Sunrise on Sunday
I woke to rain, and emerged slowly. As the rain stopped. Contemplated a run. Decided that as there was so much cloud, and the tide was full in (and it was cold), I would defer going out until the tide was out and I could get some birds in the shallow water.
Just before I started to make the coffee, I noticed the sky was better than I had expected and went out on the deck, to capture this. The sun was behind a thin layer of cloud above the Tauwharanui Peninsula, allowing for a bright track of light across the water of Kawau Bay. Little Barrier Island is visible in the distance (on the left) and on the right is the northern end of the Coromandel Peninsula, forming the eastern side of the Hauraki Gulf.
Try it in large
I did go out at 1100 (a bit later than ideal) and took heaps of photos of oystercatchers, the mangle-footed heron, and two kotare (kingfishers). The favourite from all those for S was in fact a shot over some rocks in the shallow water towards the northern end of Snells Beach. For her I have put that into my blipfolio.
Report finally finished, with just the final editing tonight and off to the Court tomorrow. A relief.
