Strange Gnawings

A trip to the pharmacy this morning only to find that my husband’s prescription had already been sent out for delivery; not a problem it was a nice walk in the sunshine. 
 
When I looked out of one of the kitchen windows this morning, something at the base of one of our apple trees looked different. On investigation it appears that something has been eating the roots of this apple tree; a Fallow deer probably, Rabbits or do Badgers gnaw at tree roots I wonder.
 
The temperature at noon today was three degrees Celsius. Again it was minus three in the garden, but we did have some blue skies and sunshine.
