Le Grand Tertre Farm

Another windy overcast day. We popped out this morning on a few errands. We stopped off near this old building which I'd wanted to revisit for some time.
It is Le Grand Tertre (The Large Mound) farm. It is built atop a hill and once would have overlooked the Braye du Valle channel that separated Guernsey. It is a fortified farmhouse or manor dating from the 15th century. You can see where the original entrance arch was, wide enough to accommodate a cart or coach. Some of the arch, built of Cobo granite, has been removed and the entrance is now blocked. It originally would have held a gate. To the left of the arch is a defensive tower. This contained arrow slits for defending the entrance.
Today, the property is available as self catering holiday lets.
