Watching me, watching you ...
A busy week this week.
On Tuesday the vet arrived to start our 4 yearly TB test. This means running all breeding cows ,heifers and bulls through the crush, clipping 2 patches of skin on their neck, measuring the skin with callipers then injecting the patches with avian and bovine tuberculin. ( A bit like when you got your BCG jags at school)
Littlemiss was in charge of finding each cows ear number and filling in the sheet with the measurements. We got on quite well and had finished by 3 pm
The vet came back on Friday and we ran them all out again so he could feel their necks for any swelling. If the avian site is raised it's OK,if the bottom bovine one reacts we have a problem.
Luckily everything was fine.
This cow calved on Thursday and was a wee bit protective! We managed to check her on Friday without anyone getting killed, always a bonus ...
The vet will be back in a fortnight to do the remaining 120 cattle. Fingers crossed it is a dry week .
