Heartbreak for Spartans

Unexpectedly went along to the Spartans v Hearts Scottish Cup tie this lunchtime. Unexpectedly because they had said, with a ground capacity of just 3,500, tickets would only be available for season ticket holders and those connected with the club. My friend T, who is a season ticket holder, said he might be able to get hold of a ticket if I was interested. Certainly I said, if there is a chance, and, sure enough, he managed to get hold of a returned ticket. Met up with T and his mate G (who were both at the game last week) and also A, who is really a Jambo, but has been to a few Spartans' matches too. A is also the mother of my friends A and L and I have photographed all three of them at one point, although these days we are mostly in touch via FB. A is a birdwatcher too as well as a keen photographer so we talked birds and cameras as we waited for kick-off. We managed to get a space in T's usual spot, just on the edge of the penalty box.
Hearts started well and were pinging the ball about and showing the difference in quality between the SPL and League Two so it was no surprise when they took the lead just in front of us. It looked like we were in for a painful 90 minutes.
And yet. Hearts didn't add to their lead, despite dominating the possession and shots on target. As I messaged to a friend at half time, Spartans needed a fluke goal. Which they duly scored about halfway through the second half. From them on Spartans defended resolutely but sadly conceded a goal in injury time as Hearts won 2-1. Afterwards T, G and I went to the Malt n Hops for a pint or two and a chat about politics and football. An enjoyable afternoon, despite the result.
