Duke of Lancaster
SATURDAY
I was out of the door just after 8:00 and drove 18 miles over to Wepre Park for this morning's Parkrun. I had been warned about the hill on the course which normally features in both of the circuits. Today however, due to ice on the course, we were treated to the "alternative" route which involves going up the hill three times! I finished the run in 33:25.
It was nice to chat over a cup of coffee to some Parkrunners who had travelled over from Huddersfield.
I took the coastal road home and stopped off at Mostyn to see the former British Railways Steam Ship the Duke of Lancaster. It was built at Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast and launched in 1955 and was eventually retired from service in 1978. It was beached at Llanerch-y-Mor, Mostyn, North Wales, in August 1979. There have been various proposals for the ship but nothing has ever come to fruition. In 2022 it was used for filming a 6-part Windrush series for ITV starring Lenny Henry.
