My daily photo.

Long Beach

We were on our way to photograph king tide waves before daylight.  Unfortunately the waves really didn't materialize today.  (there is one photo in the Extra Photos of the sunrise and the lighthouse).

The Cape Disappointment lighthouse on Cape Disappointment is near the mouth of the Columbia River on the Washington side of the Columbia River.  It was named Cape Disappointment in 1788 due to the mistaken belief that the mouth of the Columbia River was only a bay.  The Columbia River bar is one of the most dangerous bars to cross, earning it the nickname of the Graveyard of the Pacific.

Years ago I did an offshore in a 32' sailboat leaving Elliot Bay in Seattle and sailing north to the Broken Islands for a few days then down the Washington Coast and spent most of one day crossing the Columbia River bar before continued up the Columbia River to Portland Oregon.
